Code Enforcement

The Lithonia Police Department’s Code Enforcement Unit is a community oriented, pro-active enforcement unit designed to improve the quality of life for the residents of the City of Lithonia, through the use of State laws and local ordinances.

Goals

The goal of Code Enforcement is to preserve the quality and value of public and private property, and maintain a high standard of living by eliminating conditions that threaten the life, health, safety, and general welfare of the public. The department recognizes that this goal is most effectively achieved through the education of, and cooperation with, the citizens of Lithonia.

Responsibilities

This unit is responsible for the inspection, enforcement, and administration of applying City ordinances to private property, conducting on-site inspections, and handling administrative details.

Work involves making independent technical decisions, enforcing codes and ordinances to gain voluntary compliance of the residents and business owners with regards to City ordinances, and enforce such ordinances when voluntary compliance is not met. Work is performed under the general supervision of the CID Commander along with direction and input from the Mayor and City Council.
