Major Donald Ferguson graduated from the University of West Georgia with a Bachelor's Degree in both Psychology and Criminal Justice, received a Master of Science Degree in Leadership from Grand Canyon University, and Master's Degree in Public Administration from Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia. He is a graduate of The Southern Police Institute 93rd (AOC) Administrative Officers Course at The University of Louisville (1995), The Institute for Law Enforcement Administration formally, The Southwestern Law Enforcement Institute of the Southwestern Legal Foundation, and the 29th Class of The Georgia Law Enforcement Command College. Ferguson is a GA. POST Certified Master Training Instructor, Agency Accreditation Manager who has received multiple awards and has completed a wide range of specialized instruction during his law enforcement career.

Major Ferguson comes to Lithonia PD with 35 years of law enforcement experience, to include the Fulton County Sheriff's Office and the United States Department of Justice, the Division of Federal Bureau of Investigations for the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games, Olympic Intelligence Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Ferguson brings extensive expertise as an Accreditation Manager, Leadership, Community Oriented-Policing, Administrative and Management Training, Emergency Management, Strategic Planning, Civil Liability, Criminal Procedure, Futuristic Policing in the 21st Century, Policy and Procedure Development. Ferguson is a member of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., and an array of additional professional affiliates. Ferguson is the father of three adult children, Donald DeAndre' Kandace, Darius, and Granddaughter's Riley & Reign. Ferguson attributes his success to GOD, faith, self-empowerment, hard work, and commitment.

The Major is the second highest position in the police department. The Major is responsible for all day-to-day operations of the agency and answers directly to the Chief. The Major assists in directing, supervising, and managing the operations of the agency. He is also responsible for CALEA Accreditation, State Certification, training, and community relations projects.
